ABOUT US (Edward Zirui Wang) – Portfolio
The more I consume all forms of media and occasionally write, the more I realize the core of my appreciations for any work is a solid enough internal logic, be it in the contexts of narrative, setting, pacing, or especially characters. This may be odd for a writer with strong, meandering, discovery tendencies but I do appreciate being able to fit or adapt pieces together. I like a work to be consistent, coherent, and compelling which makes for an ever fascinating spectacle in the matters of fanfiction and beyond.
My insights and experience as a writer derive almost wholly from roleplaying: the chaotic learnings in forum RP, the firmer ground in the realms of DnD, the wonderfully elaborations of Anima: Beyond Fantasy, and the grim darkness of the 41st millennium. Rosters of characters and one personal campaign later, the writing I found to be cringe in early attempts was suddenly refined into something acceptable.
My base inspirations are fairy tales, folklore, etymology, and mythology with a particular fondness for cthonian and eldritch matters.
My favorite creatives are Neil Gaiman, Brandon Sanderson, Terry Pratchett, Jim Butcher, Monty Oum, Jonathan Sims for The Magnus Archives, Satoru Iwata, OSP Productions (but mostly on Red’s subject areas), Hello Future Me, and Hololive as a whole (but mostly Calliope Mori and Ninomae Ina’nis).
My favorite works are overwhelming Fate (VN, Zero, GO), RWBY (1-3, 4), and the .hack videogames but I will make special mention for The Witcher, Food Wars, Silver Spoon, and GARO (live action), Pacific Rim, Log Horizon, but I dabble widely and delve deeply into anything that piques interest.
No matter who you are or what you do, make good art and keep striving forward.
To date, I have a short story publishing in the 2022 edition of The Windward Review and participated in 11 years of NaNoWriMo under KurokawaTaizen.
Otherwise I have various writings scattered across tabletop campaigns, character backstories, and unpublished pages of deriative fiction.
